What is a neurotoxin?Wrinkles are a natural sign of aging. Over time, our skin loses its elasticity thanks to reduced collagen, reduced elastin, smoking, and increased sun exposure. Facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, and even smiling can make wrinkles seem more pronounced. Sometimes, these wrinkles show up sooner than we expect. We can use these products as a preventative measure or as a treatment to relax lines that already exist.

DYSPORT VS. BOTOX VS. XEOMIN | What’s the difference?Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox are all injectables that contain the active ingredient botulinum toxin A, a neurotoxin that works to treat muscle spasm-related medical conditions and cosmetically to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles in a fight against the natural aging process. These neurotoxins are extremely effective but have slightly different compositions and can treat slightly different conditions. The best course of action when making a determination about the best treatment plan for you is by working with a certified specialist. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? At first glance, there seems to be no real difference between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. All contain the same active ingredient (Botulinum Type A) and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, there are some key distinctions that will make your specialist choose one over the other. ~ Xeomin is considered a naked neurotoxin. It contains only the botulinum molecule. The purity of the Xeomin molecule means there is a lower chance that you will develop a resistance to its effects. ~ Dysport is more diluted than Botox, with an almost 3 to 1 split. Based on the location of the injectable, your specialist may need more product to fill one area than another. If you’re worried that Dysport will cost more - don’t be! The pricing takes this difference into consideration, so the bottom line is the same. ~ Dysport is composed of smaller molecules than Botox and Xeomin, giving it a larger area of spread once it’s injected and oftentimes a bit of a “softer” look. So if you’re treating a large area, like the forehead, Dysport is oftentimes a good choice given that it spreads out more, but Botox might be preferred for smaller areas, such as around the eyes. Finally, the length of time it takes for each one to take effect is somewhat different between the two. After injection, it generally takes Botox about 7 days to start working, although Dysport typically starts working 1-3 days post-injection. Both are considered to have their full effect at 2 weeks. The effects of both Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport can last anywhere from 2-6 months, depending on the area treated and how much is required to relax the muscle. After about a year of treatments, you can often go longer between treatments because it takes less effort for those muscles to relax.
-
Can you combine neurotoxins with other treatments? It’s not uncommon for patients to ask about other treatments along with Botox or Dysport. For instance, you can get an injectable filler, which can plump up your skin and add much-needed volume. These fillers, like Juvederm or Restylane, contain hyaluronic acid, a natural compound found in the skin. We can even mix two different neurotoxins (use Botox in face but Xeomin for excessive hyperhidrosis) so the patient is less likely to develop a resistance to the higher doses required for larger areas.
-
How many units will I need?A common question that we receive is how many neurotoxin units a client might need in order to get the desired treatment results. Unfortunately, there is not a universal answer to this question. The amount of product needed varies greatly from one person to another, depending on many factors. The Variables How large the muscle in question is How strong the muscle is The placement or position of the muscle Which part of the face is getting treatment Whether you are a man or woman since the muscles present differently What your Botox goals are

What are PDO Threads?PDO stands for polydioxanone, a flexible and durable absorbable polymer. PDO threads come in three main textures. Mono, a single, smooth thread, provides a small lift. Cog, a barbed thread, lifts the tissue and encourages collagen. Screw is one or two intertwined threads, which can also provide volume augmentation. Mono is good for skin tightening, whereas cog and screw provide more lift and volume. Threads are designed to subtly lift the facial features to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while encouraging collagen production for more volume in the treated areas. PDO threads come in a variety of textures for customized treatments.
-
Are they painful? The thread procedure is tolerated well by most patients. The entire area is numbed topically as well as injected with lidocaine. Patients reported feeling sore after the procedure is over. Tylenol can be taken post procedure.
-
How do I know if I’m a candidate?Schedule a consultation with us, so that we can properly assess your face and make appropriate recommendations.
-
Are threads the same as a face lift? No. Although threads may seem like they could replace a surgical face lift, they only offer temporary/limited results. There are in no way intended to replace a surgical intervention but are a great option for the right candidate.
